Tournament History
The first University of Dallas golf tournament was held in 2001 and named the James M. Moroney, Jr. Homecoming Golf Classic. Moroney served on the Board of Trustees from 1985 through 2001 and as chairman from 1988 through 2001. The lead sponsors for the tournament were Tim ('82) and Miriam ('83) Gehan of Gehan Homes, LTD.
Now in our twelfth year, the University of Dallas Golf Tournament ranks as the 15th largest North Texas charity golf tournament by the 2010 Dallas Business Journal. Other elite tournaments included in the lists are the HP Byron Nelson Championship, the Dallas LUV Classic and Party and the Dallas ST. Jude/Derek Harper Celebrity Golf Classic. This year we surpassed the $1.24 million mark in total scholarship funds raised since 2001.
In 2007, the University of Dallas Board of Trustees presented Bob Galecke, Executive Vice President, with the Galecke Cup, a trophy named in his honor. Galecke founded the golf tournament in 2001 as a fundraising initiative to support the University. Each year, the first place team names are placed on the Cup.
Previous Galecke Cup winners are-
2011- Joe Oscar Neuhoff, Bruce Teagarden, Joe Griffith and Matt LaFollett
2010- Stan Getzler, Kevin Hood, David Moore and Jeff Thomas
2009- Dan Flaherty, Tom Flaherty and Steven Pierret
2008- Dan Flaherty, Mike Flaherty, Tom Flaherty and Neal Barfield
