Programs for Teachers
The Braniff Graduate School of Liberal Arts welcomes teachers to enroll in any of its degree programs, whether as regular or as special students. Recognizing that teachers are a vital, and often underappreciated, force in maintaining the strength of our nation, and knowing that they are usually underpaid for the essential work that they do, the University of Dallas wishes to make participation in its degree programs more affordable by offering full-time teachers a certain number of partial tuition scholarships.
Tuition Scholarships
In order to be considered for these tuition scholarships the University asks that applicants complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be found at www.fafsa.gov. This can be done after a teacher has applied and been accepted into one of the Braniff degree programs.
For other forms of financial aid, that is to say, loans, please consult the Financial Aid page.
Graduate Programs
Teachers are welcome in any of our graduate programs, but several have been designed with teachers in mind. Two of them are interdisciplinary, the American Studies and the Humanities programs. A third, the Master’s program in English, tends to range beyond the confines of English literature itself and to include the study of works drawn from the entire Western literary tradition. These programs attempt to schedule many of their course offerings at times when teachers can participate in them, that is, in the later afternoons and evenings and in one of the University’s two summer sessions.
The Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture
For teachers who are interested in pursuing one of these degrees, the University is very fortunate to have the support of the Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture. The DIHC is a kind of club house for teachers, where they can gather to refresh their love of their discipline and to share with each other some of the war stories that have been part of their effort to maintain the quality of education offered by their schools. The DIHC hosts a Teachers Institute every summer, which consists of two 6 credit hour courses, each offered in alternate summers, in Epic and in Tragedy and Comedy. These courses may both be used toward Braniff Graduate School degrees.
Advanced Placement Summer Institutes
The University also hosts Advanced Placement Summer Institutes in several subjects for teachers who are planning to offer an AP course during the regular school year.
