PRAXIS - Additional Information

MISSION

The mission of PRAXIS is to support the professional and career development of students with entrepreneurial interests through educational and experiential opportunities.

FOUNDATION

PRAXIS is founded upon Pope John Paul's charge to students in the pursuit of their education:

"Students are challenged to pursue an education that combines excellence in humanistic and cultural development with specialized professional training. ... They should realize the responsibility of their professional life, the enthusiasm of being the trained 'leaders' of tomorrow, of being witnesses to Christ in whatever place they may exercise their profession." (Pope John Paul II, Ex Corde Ecclesiae)

PROGRAM ELEMENTS

PRAXIS is an apprenticeship program under the guidance of a leadership coach. As such, it requires both formal classroom training and practical field experience. Each participant may choose to complete the business cocnentration (five specific courses in business) or only two, business foundations and global entrepreneurship. While pursuing the internship, participants are required to engage in regularly scheduled coaching sessions.

PRAXIS courses:
* Business Foundations
* Global Entrepreneurship
* Accounting Principles
* Marketing Theory and Practice
* 1 upper level business elective

PRAXIS students have a faculty advisor who helps them to coordinate their major coursework with the PRAXIS requirements.

PRAXIS internships are 12 week experiences with a private sector or not-for-profit organization. They are assigned and structured according to the student's developmental needs. Students who successfully complete internships earn both pay and academic credit.

BENEFACTOR

PRAXIS exists through the financial blessing provided by an alumnus of the CLASS OF '65, Mr. Tim Fitzgibbons and his wife Mrs. Elvira Fitzgibbons.
