Sister Clodovia Lockett Scholarship for Pre-Medical Studies Awarded

The Biology Department is pleased to offer the Sister Clodovia Lockett Endowed Scholarship in Pre-Medical Studies. The scholarship provides full tuition support for the recipient, as well as a $500 stipend to be used toward expenses incurred during the medical school application process.

The scholarship was established to honor Sister Clodovia, who during her time at UD worked with her colleagues in building an outstanding reputation for the Pre-Medical Program.

More than 90% of the students Sister Clodovia advised were accepted into medical school. She supported and encouraged many young men and women to pursue their medical career while, at the same time, was equally admired when she suggested to others an alternative career which later proved rewarding. Before her death in 1994, the University made the commitment to endow a scholarship in her name, and the first scholarship was awarded in 1997 through the generous donations of alumni, faculty, and friends of Sister Clo.

The scholarship committee, consisting of a panel of friends as well as former students of Sister Clo who are now physicians, awards the scholarship based on the applicant's academic record, activities, and their reasons for wishing to become a physician. The final step in the selection process is an interview with the committee, where finalists are asked to describe the qualities that will ultimately make them competitive medical school applicants as well as compassionate physicians.
