Why did I choose UD? When I first began my college search I had a minimal interest in the University of Dallas. As I looked further at the school I found that rather than detract from my pursuit of a degree in Physics, UD’s focus on the liberal arts actually deepened my education in this field. More than this, I found that socially UD had tons of stuff to do outside of the classroom, including a club rugby team, which had been a love of mine throughout high school. Being able to have all of this in an environment where one’s religious beliefs are not stifled but encouraged was too much to resist. Even more exciting was the opportunity to do all of this in ROME!
What do I do on and around campus? I live in the student apartments, which puts me right in the heart of UD life. My time between and after classes is usually packed, whether I’m working out at the fitness center, going to any number of sporting events, working on homework in the cap bar, or just chatting with friends wherever I happen to see them. I can also be found studying and working in the Physics lab as a lab assistant helping out underclassmen and Dr. O, the Chair of the Physics Department. Besides all of this, there is constantly some school sponsored even like live music at TGIT every Thursday night in the RAT, Dallas Year trips into the city to places like Medieval Times, Six Flags and Ranger's games, and intramural sport seasons.
What is a typical day like for me at UD? With everything I have going on, on my day-to-day schedule changes constantly. Typically, it begins by throwing myself from bed and rushing off to grab coffee at the cap bar before heading to my first class. Throughout the day I can be found around the Mall (center of campus) either going to classes, hanging out with friends, or finishing up some unfinished homework. Once classes are out it’s usually off to work or the gym, and then I spend some time on homework and/or hang out with friends. In the evenings, depending on what night it is, I head out to whatever event or events happen to be going on that evening on campus.
