The French Department Award

- Amount: $1,000-$3,000
- Eligibility: High School Seniors who have submitted an application for admission by January 15th and completed all scholarship application requirements by the scholarship deadline.
Deadline: February 15, 2008
The scholarship competition consists of a written exam and an oral interview. Both must take place during an official on-campus visit.
Eligibility:
The French Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in their third year of high school French or those who have completed the equivalent level of study. The scholarship is not awarded to native speakers of French. Any questions regarding eligibility should be directed to Dr. Stephen Maddux at 972-721-5220.
To Apply:
- Apply for admission to the university
- Register for an on-campus interview through the Campus Visit Coordinator at 800.628.6999
- Complete the Special Award Program Application and submit it prior to your campus visit and interview. Please be sure to mark the envelope or fax “Special Award Program Application."
Renewability Criteria:
This scholarship is renewable annually and available to you during four consecutive school years, dependent upon your academic performance and the criteria stated below.
- Maintain full-time academic status each semester by earning at least twelve UD credit hours per fall and spring semester and earning at least twenty-seven UD credit hours per annual review period.
- Demonstrate a cumulative UD G.P.A. (grade point average) of at least 3.000 on the annual review date.
- Complete at least four courses above the Intermediate I level.
- Begin French courses during the first semester freshman year, and take at least one course each semester attending the Irving campus until the minimum is reached.
- Meet with the French Advisor each semester for approval of your course schedule until you have achieved the minimum course completion requirement.
- Help organize at least one extra-curricular activity per semester that is of interest to students of French.

Scheduled Interview Dates:
Interviews will be held on the first Friday of every month. Alternative dates may be scheduled.
Please give at least two week's advance notice when applying for your campus visit and interview.
