Richard L. Strockbine

Dick Strockbine has held the position of Athletic Director at the University of Dallas since January 1995. Prior to his arrival on the Irving campus, Strockbine was Athletic Director at the University of Maine - Fort Kent.
He is a graduate of Bethany College, West Virginia, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History as well as letters in football and baseball. He later received his Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Webster University.
Strockbine is a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force with key assignments as a Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile flight commander in the 564th Strategic Missile Squadron and as executive officer of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Korat Air Base, Thailand and the 341st Strategic Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. While in the service he played football at Moron Air Base, softball at Bunker Hill Air Force Base, soccer at Korat Air Base, Little Rock Air Force Base and in Bangkok while assigned to 7/13th Air Force at MACTHAI Headquarters. He also coached basketball at Bunker Hill Air Force Base and Moron Air Base.
His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Ribbon with five bronze stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
His collegiate career includes stops at Connecticut College, Incarnate Word College, St. Mary's University in San Antonio and the University of Maine at Fort Kent. As a soccer coach he holds a 92-79-1 career record, including five wins over NCAA Division I opponents, with Heart of Texas Conference championships in 1987 and 1988 and an NAIA District 4 championship in 1987. He started the men's soccer program at Incarnate Word and the women's program at St. Mary's. He was a Heart of Texas Conference Co-Coach of the Year in 1991 and NAIA District 4 Co-Coach of the Year in 1992.
Currently he is a member in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Division III Athletics Administrators Association. He is presently active as the President of the organization of NCAA Division III Independents and served a four year term as NCAA Division III representative to the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee.
A native of Port Washington, New York he is married to the former Debra A. Dixon of Tampa, Florida. They currently live in Carrollton. The couples 4 children live throughout the United States. Erich resides in Frisco, Christopher lives in Carrollton, Alexander is stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and their daughter Jennifer lives in Nashville. The couples fifth child Richard is deceased.
MEN's SOCCER COACH

In 2003 David Hoffmann was lured away from in-state rival Schreiner University. Since his arrival to the University of Dallas as head soccer coach, Hoffmann has seen a great rise in soccer participation through his tireless efforts as a recruiter. In 6 seasons, Hoffmann has posted a 72-30-6 record as head coach. He possesses a significantly better 69-16-5 mark since the arrival of his first recruiting class. He was selected as the National Coach of the Year by the Association of Division 3 Independents after the 2007 season. Hoffman, in 2008, led the team in what is arguably the best season that they have had in the history of the program. Their record was 16-4-1 and their peak was winning the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship. This win qualified them for the NCAA Division 3 postseason which was a first in the program's history. Hoffman himself set a new school record at the University of Dallas in winning percentage at .921, and wins in a season at 17. In addition, Hoffman was named Coach of the Year by the Association of Division 3 Independents after the 2008 season.
Before coming to UD, Hoffmann held the position as head coach at Schreiner University for four seasons, where his men's team produced three consecutive NAIA Sectional Finals and a record of 33-40. Hoffmann's teams have produced 17 Academic All-Americans, the NSCAA award for the highest team GPA, and numerous player awards and professional tryouts. He was the Director of both Mountaineer Soccer Camps and Elite Soccer Camps. On the club level he founded the Highlanders Soccer Club in which he held DOC and master coach responsibilities from 1997-1999. In the year of 2000 he took over the role of DOC for the San Antonio Strikers Futbol Club, the largest men's club soccer organization in San Antonio. Currently, Coach Hoffmann works with the DFW Tornados '92 and '89 girls teams, as well as being involved with North Texas Soccer ODP. Hoffmann holds a NSCAA Advanced National Coaching Diploma with Distinction, USSF "Y" National Youth License, and FA Soccer Psychology Certification.
Coach Hoffman has been involved in soccer either as a player or coach since 1977. David grew up in Colleyville and played for N.E.T Longhorns and Fort Worth United. While playing at Grapevine High School, he won a State Championship in 1990. He was a 4-year starter and senior captain at St. Mary's University. He also played semipro for the South Texas Eagles. Playing honors include North Texas State Pool All-Region, All-State, State All-Star, and team MVP. Currently, David resides in Highland Village with his wife, Tricia and daughter, Trinity.

BASEBALL COACH

In his fourth year at the helm of the UD baseball program, Coach Strockbine led the University of Dallas nine to a 23-15-1 record. Fresh off a 25 win season, UD didn't disappoint as they rattled off a three game sweep over the Adrian early in the year. UD received votes in national polls and its individuals broke several records throughout the impressive campaign. In four seasons at UD Strockbine is 86-64-2.
Prior to his employment at the University of Dallas Strockbine served as assistant football coach at Beloit College, and assistant track and field coach at Beloit Memorial High School (WI). Strockbine competed in football and baseball at Beloit College lettering 4 years in football and was named the Most Improved Player in baseball for the 2001 season. In addition he played two summers in the Dallas Amateur Baseball Association. In High School he was an all-state selection in football and baseball. Coach Strockbine is also a veteran of University of Dallas baseball clinics, having been involved as a counselor since 1998.
While serving as an assistant at UD in 2004 Strockbine oversaw the catchers, while serving as the team's hitting coach. Strockbine hopes to use his areas of expertise to bring UD baseball to new heights.
Strockbine graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Beloit College.
SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR

Ryan Frey was hired in mid August 2005 to serve as the Sports Information Director and Cross Country and Track & Field coach and at the University of Dallas. The primary contact for all 12 of the sports UD sponsors is also a member of the Tower Editorial Board and contributing writer to the Tower (the school's alumni magazine) as well as the Parent's E-Newsletter. The Marshall, WI native attended Beloit College where he played safety on the school's football team before his career was ended due to health issues. Frey also hopes his years of experience in athletic media relations will benefit the University of Dallas Athletic programs, and the school in general, as Sports Information Director. He previously spent time as Assistant SID at Madison Area Technical College, a sportswriter for the Beloit Daily News, and as an Assistant Archivist at Beloit College where he focused on historically important athletic stories related to Beloit and its surrounding areas.
Frey led the men and women's Cross Country and Track teams' to success before turning over the reigns to Troy Thrasher. Frey earned his Bachelor of Art degree in History and a minor in Political Science from Beloit College in 2003.
ATHLETIC TRAINER
Contact Meaghan Murphy: meaghan@udallas.edu Meaghan Murphy came to UD after her official hiring in September 2005, via Syracuse, NY. The Syracuse native's work history includes serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for Kenmore East H.S. in Buffalo. While in Buffalo, Murphy also was employed as a Certified Athletic Trainer at the Athleticare Outpatient Clinic.
Meaghan first got involved into athletic training by serving as the Student Athletic Trainer at the University at Buffalo. At Buffalo she worked for Division I-A programs in football, men's basketball, and baseball. Murphy eventually became the Head Student Athletic Trainer of track & field and women's volleyball. She also gained valuable experience under a Certified Athletic Trainer, assisting athletes with rehabilitation programs, and performing modalities such as electric stimulation and hydrotherapy. By April 2004 she was NATA-BOC certified, New York State Licensed, and certified by the American Red Cross in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
After graduating from the University at Buffalo, Murphy served as a student intern for Athleticare at East Aurora High School and with Partners in Rehab in East Aurora. She gained additional experience working area competitions such as the University at Buffalo's baseball and basketball camps and the Junior Olympic East Diving Championships. She also demonstrated her commitment to community service by volunteering for groups such as the St. Francis House where she helped care for terminally ill patients. Murphy graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University at Buffalo with a Bachelors of Science degree, focusing on Exercise Science and Athletic Training. She later obtained her master's degree at the university.
WOMEN's BASKETBALL COACH

Jennifer Fleming was hired as the new women's basketball coach in an announcement in June of 2007. After her first season she set the record for the most wins in a season with a record of 14-13 (.518). The previous record of 13 was set by Chris Hill in 2003-04. During the 2008-09 season, the team finished with a 6-19 record and lost in their first round game in the NEAC Conference Tournament. Fleming now has a 20-22 coaching record in coaching at UD.
Fleming's most recent stop came as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for DI Army from 2004-2007. During the 2006-07 season she assisted the Army team to school records for the most victories (24) and longest winning streak (12). Prior to her stop at the USMA, she was the assistant head coach (03-04) and assistant coach (02-03) at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Fleming started her career as the assistant coach at Doherty High School (2000-02) where they participated in back to 5A State Championship games.
Fleming is a graduate of the United States Military Academy (1990), where she served as captain of both the basketball and softball teams while earning numerous awards and records. Both teams participated in post season tournaments during her 4 years. She has a MS in software engineering from George Mason University.
WOMEN's LACROSSE COACH
Will Oakley

In his first season at UD, Oakley led his team to a 2-11 record. Overall, four UD records were broken, including two by junior to be Christine McFarland. The return of the team MVP and captain, and that of 12 all others, bodes well for the 2010 squad.
Oakley was previously the head coach for two WDIA teams. He spent two seasons at the University of California Irvine, and two seasons before that at Georgia Tech, where he earned 2005 Southeastern Women's Lacrosse League Coach of the Year honors.
Originally from Wilmington, NC, Oakley graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. A two-time team captain for the men's lacrosse team, he also earned MCLA All-America honors his junior and senior years. While helping Tech win the 2004 Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Championship, Will was chosen as the 2004 Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He still holds multiple scoring records at Tech and was an SELC All-Conference selection all four years of playing. Will attended high school at St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware and was named to the all-Delaware Independent School Conference team twice for lacrosse.
The University of Dallas Lady Crusaders armed with several returning starters look forward to a season with their new coach. Their first game is against Adrian College in St. Louis, MO on Saturday, February 28. The 2009 opener starts at 1:00pm.
SOFTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL COACH

In her fourth season at leading the UD softball team, Coach Hanson and her team rebounded from a 13 win season to finish with the most wins in the young history of the program to end the year with a record breaking 20 win season for a 20-17 finish. But the record breaking didn't stop there. In total, the close nit bunch broke six team records and several individual marks fell as well. In four seasons at the helm of the softball program Hanson has a 62-69 record.
In three seasons as the volleyball coach, Hanson's teams went 51-54. Hanson's volleyball coaching highlight was during the 2006 season when the team went on a 11 match winning streak to end the year.
No stranger to success in her days as a Trinity University softball player, Coach Hanson hopes to continue that success as the head coach of softball and volleyball. As co-team captain her senior year, Coach Hanson was part of the Trinity softball team that won a conference championship and finished 19th in the nation. Upon graduation she held the record for single-season runs, career runs, stolen bases, walks and is second all-time for hits. She earned All-Conference honors three times at two different positions in her collegiate career. Coach Hanson was also an academic All-American, showing her commitment to excellence in athletics and academics. Coach Hanson earned her degree in Political Science at Trinity University in San Antonio. A native Texan, Coach Hanson is excited to return to her home state after completing a Fellowship in Washington D.C. and working for the Family Research Council.
WOMEN's SOCCER COACH

First year coach Ryan Reedy and his athletes faced a tough season playing several Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools in the 0-17-2 2008 campaign. The UD graduate and star soccer athlete and student is hoping for more success after a solid year of recruiting. Coupled with the growth of the returning athletes, 2009 could be a season of promise.
UD's first game is slated for September 1 against East Texas Baptist in Marshall, TX at 7:00pm. UD returns home for their next game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The women's soccer team will play 11 of their 19 games on the UD campus.
Coach Reedy first came to the University of Dallas as a student in 2001 and began his illustrious soccer career that fall. While attending Dallas, Reedy was a four year starter and letter winner for the men's soccer team, as well as team captain during his senior season. Reedy's many accomplishments during his playing career at the University of Dallas include team MVP in 2004, USCAA Academic All-American during the 2003 and 2004 seasons, and 2003 CoSida Academic All-District VI College Divisions Men's Soccer Team.
In the spring of 2005, Reedy graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in History and is currently pursuing a MA in Humanities at the University. He currently works at the University of Dallas' Due Santi campus in Rome, Italy as a Rome Coordinator and has been there since January 2007. The spring 2008 semester will be his last semester in Rome as he will return to Irving to coach the women's soccer team in the fall. Reedy is currently engaged to be married in August to Ellen Flannery, a fellow 2005 graduate of the University of Dallas.
With the arrival of Reedy in the fall of 2008, the University acquires a very experienced soccer coach. He was the University of Dallas Men's Soccer team assistant coach from the summer of 2005 until December 2007 when he left to work in Italy. He was also the assistant coach for the club soccer team DFW Tornadoes during the same period and earned his North Texas State 'D' Coaching License.

Cross Country and Track Coach

The University of Dallas named Jody Hawkins the new cross country coach for the 2008-2009 school year. Hawkins will be joining the University after a very successful stint at Centennial High School where she was named Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2007 for district 9-4AAAA. She had been a very successful high school coach for ten years in which she developed 90 district champions, 13 regional champions, and 8 state championship medalists. Hawkins also has had a very distinguished personal career in long distance running. During her college days, she was a five time All-American from 1984-89 and holds every distance record at UT-San Antonio. As she moved on to professional running, she continued to climb in the running world reaching a #6 ranking in the world by Runners World Magazine and a #1 ranking in the 10 mile in 1993. She currently holds the third best 5k for runners forty and older and set the American Masters 3k indoor record in 2007 with a time of 9:56.24. The University is glad that they are adding such a very successful and passionate runner and hope that Hawkins can help the Crusaders find success in the 2008 season and beyond.
MEN's BASKETBALL AND GOLF COACH

In his first year leading the UD men's basketball team, the Crusaders finished with a 8-17 regular season record before playing in the North Eastern Athletic Conference for the first time. Samples led the team to a first round victory over Kueka College before falling to Wells College in the second round to finish the season 9-18. Samples also led the UD golfers to a promising campaign. In 14 rounds, the UD duffers broke the team records for low round (312) at the Utica College Spring Invitational and low two round (653) at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships. Three UD golfers were named to the NEAC all-conference team following their third place finish in the tournament.
The 2001 graduate of UD spent the past 2 years as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Chicago. During his time at Chicago, the men's team won back-to-back University Athletic Association Championships and appeared in the NCAA tournament in both of his years at the University. Prior to his time at Chicago, Samples spent 5 seasons as an assistant men's basketball coach at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.
Samples was a 4-year letter winner at UD before graduating in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in history.
ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH

Dr. Bob Howard, the new volunteer assistant volleyball coach, comes to UD with over 30 years of coaching experience. During that span he has coached both men's and women's intercollegiate volleyball, USAV Junior Olympic club and high school ball. Additionally, he has also taught in Exercise Science and directed campus recreation at the college level.
Dr. Bob originally hails from California where he both played and coached collegiately. He has coached college volleyball in Texas the past 10 years. Prior to coming to Texas his coaching stops included Northern Illinois, Tennessee, Oregon and California.
Educationally, Bob has earned his Bachelors (Cal Poly, Pomona), Masters (Humboldt State, CA) and Doctorate (Middle Tennessee State) degrees. He has written a book on volleyball, An Understanding of the Fundamental Techniques of Volleyball, published in 1996.
