On November 14 the University of Dallas honored five alumni who had a positive influence on the University of Dallas athletic department.  The five honorees were: Shane Lungwitz, Anna McMinn, Tiffany Barden, Christine Chadwick, and Leslie Smith.  The honorees and other guests gathered in the Rathskeller before the luncheon started at 12:00pm.  UD athletic director, Dick Strockbine, spoke about the impact of women in athletics at the University and then presented the awards to the five distinguished honorees.

During the 2000-2001 to 2003-2004 time frame, Shane Lungwitz led the University of Dallas men’s Basketball team to unprecedented success setting school records for wins in a season and the best winning percentage. Along the way he set 3 individual game records for points, field goals, and free throws, and five school records for field goals, field goal %, 3 point %, and points per game, in addition to leading the 2003-2004 team to the NCAA division III basketball tournament for the first time. He is the leading scorer in school history with 1579 points and was a three time USCAA All-American selection. Following graduation, Lungwitz went on to play professionally in Italy.

Anna McMinn played tennis at the University of Dallas from 2001 through 2003.  During that time she distinguished herself on the court and in the classroom, winning the University Scholar Athlete Award in 2002 as well as recognition as a USCAA All American and Academic All American in 2002 and 2003. She holds the school record for best singles winning pct. for a season, .909, set in 2001-2002.  The 2001-2002 team holds the school record for wins in a season, 11, and the best winning percent, .846.  Anna holds 3rd place in career wins in singles, 33, and doubles 28. She holds 2nd place in career singles winning percentage, .700 and is 3rd in career matches played, 83.

Tiffany Barden was a member of the women’s soccer team from 1999-2002 and was a key player on two USCAA championship teams, one American Southwest Conference tournament team, the 2001 team that set the school record for wins in a season with 15 and the 2002 team that led NCAA division III in goals scored with 96.  The 2001 team is the first University of Dallas team in any sport to qualify for a NCAA Division III postseason tournament.  She stands 10th on the career games played list with 69, 6th in goals scored with 30 and 6th in points with 86.  Tiffany was selected to the USCAA All America team in 2002.

From 1999 to 2002 Christine Chadwick was a defender on the UD women’s soccer team. Those teams won two USCAA championships, 2001 and 2002, and were the first University of Dallas team in any sport to qualify for the NCAA tournament.  In addition they qualified for the American Southwest Conference playoffs in 2000 and set a school record for wins in a season with 15 in 2001.  The 2002 team led NCAA Division III in goals scored with 96.  Although a defender, Chadwick was an offensive force scoring 11 goals, 16th best in UD history, and registering 22 assists for 6th place all time.  Her 44 points place her 10th and her 71 games 7th.  In 1999 she was an ASC West Division 2nd team selection and in 2000 a first team selection.

In 1998 Leslie Smith joined the women’s soccer team with a bang leading the American Southwest Conference in goals, assists and points while taking the team to the ASC playoffs and receiving All Conference recognition. In1999 she made her mark in NCAA Division III finishing 7th in scoring, 9th in goals per game, and 19th in assists with an All-ASC west division recognition.  In 2000 she was again an All-ASC selection with a return to the ASC playoffs and her first of two Academic All-American selections.  2001 brought a school record 15 wins with a USCAA championship and an invitation to the NCAA division III tournament, a first for any UD team, her second Academic All-American recognition and her selection to the USCAA All America team.  She holds school career records for goals, 64, assists, 41, and points, 169.  She is one of 25 NCAA Division III players to have a 40 goal, 40 assist career.
