A variety of sports activities are provided to nurture the physical well being of the community and to provide an opportunity for students to compete in sports in an educationally sound environment. The athletics program is administered in such a way that athletics remain in keeping with the college's liberal arts tradition. While no formal physical education courses are offered, there are numerous opportunities for participation in both competitive and recreational activity.
The University of Dallas currently offers 13 intercollegiate sports for men and women on the non-scholarship, Division III level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. UD also holds associate member status with the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).
The University offers lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, softball, and track & field for women; while men's sports include soccer, cross country, basketball, baseball, track & field and golf.
As an independent member of the NCAA, UD competes with institutions from across the southwest and across the country. While the teams' regional schedules include competitions in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, most teams frequently schedule games on a national scale. Previous schedules have included trips as far away as California, Wisconsin, Florida and New York.

North Eastern Athletic Conference
5 UD Sports Become Associate Members of NEAC
Starting this fall men's soccer, men's golf, and men's and women's cross country will become associate members of the North Eastern Athletic Conference for a two year period. Men's and women's basketball will also become associate members this year. Volleyball will become an associate member next season. Although these University of Dallas sports will not compete against NEAC member schools during the regular season, UD athletic teams will participate in NEAC conference tournaments and be in a position to secure an automatic NCAA tournament bid. All conference tournaments will be hosted at predetermined locations to help minimize travel problems, and to reduce missed class. The NEAC "was re-formed in 2004 by 12 formerly independent schools who wanted to belong to a conference joined forces." Since then the membership has fluctuated and now contains the University of Dallas on an associate basis. The conference is very diverse in its membership and contains 2 public schools, 9 private schools, several of whom have religious affiliations.
Other NEAC members include: Cazenovia College, D'Youville College, Keuka College, Penn State University-Berks, Penn State University-Harrisburg, Wells College, Wilson College, SUNY Cobleskill, and SUNY Tech.

PHILOSOPHY & PURPOSE OF ATHLETICS
The purpose of athletics at the University of Dallas is to provide an opportunity for students to compete in intercollegiate sports in an educationally sound environment. The athletics program should be properly administered in such a way that athletics remains in keeping with the college's liberal arts tradition.
Athletics should be a part of the total educational process and there should be a broad base of opportunity for participation. The program should create a rallying point for students, faculty, and alumni, while still enhancing educational values. It is understood that, while striving to be competitive, institutional integrity should never be sacrificed for the sake of athletic victory.
There should be an equality of opportunity and treatment for men and women with emphasis on participation for the enjoyment and love of the game. Fair play and competition in the true sense are principles that drive the program. The health and welfare of the student-athlete is of utmost concern.
Athletics at the University of Dallas exists within the educational mainstream of the college and is administered with the same controls, budgetary procedures, and program responsibility as any other academic or administrative function.
