2008 Season Review
The women's lacrosse team finished the 2008 season with a 2-12 record. They ended the year winning two out of three games, and unfortunately lost their season finale to Adrian College 17-20. The late season surge, combined with the loss of only 1 senior, will provide momentum for a successful 2009 campaign. Senior attack/midfielder Johanna Weston (Sugar Land, TX/ Dulles H.S.) was named MVP after picking up her fourth letter of her record breaking lacrosse career, while freshman attack/midfielder Christine McFarland (Floral Park, NY/ Floral Park Memorial H.S.) was honored as the AD3I's Student-Athlete of the month for April.
Several records fell during the 2008 season, including: goals in a game (9) and points in a game (9), goals in a season (27) and points in a season (29) all set by McFarland. Weston got into the action by setting the career record for games played (48), and also tied the record for assists in a career with 7. Teammate and junior midfielder Becky Harris (Cockeysville, MD/Maryvale Prep) also finished the season with 7 career assists.
The 2008 Crusaders consisted of three team captains: junior defender Cindy Parks (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier College Prep), Weston, and Harris.
McFarland ended the season with a team leading 27 goals in the season. Close behind was Weston with 18, and Harris with 12. Weston led the team in assists with 4. In the team lead for points was McFarland with 29, Weston with 22, Harris with 14, and freshman midfielder Meghan Frost (Slidell, LA/Northshore H.S.) with 7. McFarland also led the team with an outstanding 53 groundballs, Harris added 34, and Frost finished with 30. McFarland led in draw controls with 55, freshman attack/midfielder Jennifer Kautzky (Perry, IA/Dowling Catholic) added 18, and Weston had 12. McFarland led in caused turnovers with 19, Harris with 11, and freshman attack Anna Vijil (Spring, TX/Klein H.S.) with 9.
2008 Season Comes to Record Breaking End
One Game-One Record-Tied and Beat Adrian, MI - On Sunday, April 13 during a game against Adrian College, Christine McFarland (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park Memorial High School) set a new record for individual goals scored in a game for the University of Dallas lacrosse team. She broke Meghan Braun's previous record of 7 goals in a game, which was recorded on April 11, 2006 against the University of North Texas. McFarland, a freshman attack/midfielder, scored 9 of her 11 shots on goal. She also had 11 draw controls and 3 caused turnovers during Sunday's game.
Senior attack/midfielder Johanna Weston (Sugar Land, TX/Dulles H.S.) was not far behind McFarland and scored 7 goals, tying the school's previous record. She also had 1 assist and 2 draw controls. In the game against Adrian College, the Lady Crusaders lost to the Lady Bulldogs 17-20, but finished the season with momentum for next year by winning 2 out of the team's 3 final games.

Crusader Lacrosse Program History
Women's Lacrosse began as a varsity sport in 2004 and is led by Head Coach Elia Kochan. Kochan brings experience both as a player and head coach at the DIII level. Her last coaching stop was at DIII SUNY Oswego as the interim head women's lacrosse and field hockey coach. At the New York state school, Kochan took over both programs after serving as a lacrosse assistant in 2005. Prior to coaching, Kochan was a Division I scholarship lacrosse player at Syracuse University.
The Women's Lacrosse team currently competes at the NCAA Division III level as an Independent, and the University of Dallas is the only school in the state of Texas to offer lacrosse as a varsity sport. The team has recently traveled to Ohio and Colorado to compete and has games scheduled in Oregon, Tennessee, and Michigan for the upcoming season.
