The 2007 track season was one for the record book, literally and figuratively. Although limited by numbers and composed of entirely freshmen, everyone played a role in the teams' success. Collectively, five school records were broken and every person had a hand in at least one of them.

The team was lead by Freshman Cory Grant (Red Mountain HS/Mesa, AZ) who set three records over the course of the season. He broke the 400-meter record, previously held by Adam Todd by running a 51.36 mark. Additionally, he broke the half-mile record, a record that had been held for seven years by Eduardo Siller. More impressively is the margin by which he broke it; the old standard stood at 2:03.41 before Grant ran a 2:00.66 time in his first attempt at the race all season. Finally, Grant anchored the mile relay team (or 4x400m relay) which set a new record twice this season, ending at a time four and a half seconds faster than the previous mark.

Also participating on the relay team was Garrett Yuen, a freshman from Rockwall, TX (Rockwall H.S.). In addition to the relay, Yuen also participated in the high jump and the 3000m Steeplechase for the first time in his career. Garrett set a new school record in the event in his very first attempt. His time of 10:45 was 7 seconds faster than the previous standard set by Byron Davis in 2006.

Rounding out the team was Greg Pivarunas (Elma, NY/St. Francis H.S.) and Maurice Jones (Killeen, TX/Harker Heights H.S). In addition to doing their part for the 4x4 relay team, they each participated in many individual events. Jones partook in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and consistently placed at the top among Division III schools. The same weny for Pivarunas, who ran in distance events such as the mile and the 5k. The dedication and versatility of the two was instrumental in the success of the UD tracksters.

The lone female athlete competing was the talented Angela Cuba (Holliday, TX/Holliday H.S.). Cuba's most significant achievement during the 2007 campaign was her breaking Elena Yates' record in the 3k by running an 11:00.26 at the Boarder Olympics in Laredo, TX. Cuba also competed in the 800, 1600, 3200 and the 5000.

The squad was headed by Harry Hall and assisted by Mark Landreneau. When asked about his thoughts on the season, Hall replied, "This was a confident, dedicated and talented team. They rewrote the record book and that should continue for the next few years.

UD looks forward to a successful recruiting season and for more records to fall in 2008.
