At the conclusion of a stellar 2008 campaign, Garland native Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) was rewarded with the honor of team MVP by a vote of her teammates. The sophomore libero compiled 4 new team records and finished 6th in the NCAA in average digs per set with 6.57. Among the categories in which she now ranks number one at UD are: digs in a match at 60, digs in a season at 736, digs per set in a season at 6.57, and average digs per set in a career at 5.65. Furthermore, she was in the'08 AVCA 30-dig club 8 times; with her 60 dig performance against St. Thomas proving the highest dig total in a five set match in all of Division III this season. Her total of 736 digs were earned throughout a total of 112 sets and 32 games as the team finished 16-16. Her 736 digs and 6.57 average were a vast improvement over last years 585 dig total and 4.80 average. The defensive specialist also won AD3I player of the week honors three times.
KANSAS CITY, MO - University of Dallas sophomore defensive specialist/libero Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents Volleyball Player of the Week. In four matches, Fuentes recorded 151 digs, (9.4 digs/set), only eight reception errors and one service ace. She had a season-high 60 digs in a five-set match vs. the University of St. Thomas, setting the school record for digs in a match in the process. She also claimed the school record for digs in a season with 736. Fuentes has now won the Association of Division III Independents Volleyball Player of the Week award 3 times this season.
In the first match of the Southwestern University Invitational, the Lady Crusader volleyball team fell to the University of St. Thomas Celts in five sets 25-12, 25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 18-20. During the course of the match, sophomore libero Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) recorded an incredible 60 digs, and set a new season digs record for the Crusaders. The old record was 48 set in 2004 by Kathleen Brown. Sophomore Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.), and senior Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) also played strongly, as Walls provided her teammates with 34 assists, many of which set up Farrell, who had 18 kills. Senior setter Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) finished Saturday's first match with 3 service aces.In the last match of the tournament, the Lady Crusaders will round out their season when they face one of their toughest opponents of the year as they go up against the #12 nationally ranked the Southwestern University Pirates at 2:00pm. In the final match of the season, the 12th ranked Southwestern University Pirates in three sets 19-25, 12-25, 18-25, defeated the Lady Crusaders. Senior setters Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.), and Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) both played well in their final outings as Crusaders. Walls added 18 assists to her existing UD career assist record, and Hample with 2 service aces continued to contribute to the Lady Crusaders offensive efforts. Hample now holds the career record at UD for aces, 3 ahead of the old record holder Megan Hoffman, and she improved upon her UD career record for aces per game with .61. Sophomore Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S) again anchored the UD defensive, recording 32 digs, helping set up the Crusader attack which was led by freshman middle blocker Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) 9 kills. Fuentes also established a new record at UD by recording 736 throughout the season, 56 digs better than the previous mark set by former teammate Megan Brittain.On this note, the Lady Crusaders ended their season with a 16-16 record, which was not indicative of how talented the team really was. With the loss of only three seniors and a very talented group of underclassmen, the team should be able to enter next season confident that will be able to improve on this year's record.

Senior setter Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) and sophomore libero/defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) are again ranked in the NCAA's DIII statistical leader board.As of the October 26 report, Hample is ranked 31st in aces per set with .77. In her 96 sets played she has 74 aces. Two weeks ago, Hample was ranked number 37 in the same category with .74 per set. Four matches later, she has played in 100 games in 29 matches, she leads the team with 75 aces, has recorded 453 assists (good for second on the team), 63 kills, and 165 digs.Fuentes, also on the list for the second report in a row, has even made more of a significant climb up the rankings than her senior teammate. She is currently ranked 12th by the NCAA for digs per set at 6.09. As of the last NCAA report she was ranked 26th. A two time Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week, Fuentes had 585 digs in 96 sets. In 100 sets in 29 matches, she now has 613 digs, 23 service aces, and only 41 reception errors.The 16-13 Lady Crusaders wrap-up the season with 3 more matches in the 2008 campaign. In the first game of the last day of home games for the seniors, the Lady Crusaders came up short against the Lady Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne, 10-25, 20-25, and 22-25. Seniors setters Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) and Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) each turned in an outstanding effort leading the team in 2 important categories, assists and service aces. Krysta led the team with 3 service aces, and contributed 3 assists and 8 digs. Scarlet led the team with 25 assists and churned out a team second highest 10 digs. Underclassmen Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.), Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.), and Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) also had a decisive impact. Freshman middle blocker Danielle Fuchs and sophomore middle blocker Celina Farrell each had 9 kills, while defensive specialist/libero Fuentes provided 20 digs. With the loss, the Lady Crusaders fell to 16-11, but play again against Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 4:00pm later today for their final home game of the season.
The Lady Crusaders lost their last home game of the year on Saturday night to the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions in 4 sets, 13-25, 12-25, 25-23, and 17-25. UD's 25-23 set victory marked the first time the SAGU Lions had lost a set in 21 straight. Walls had 1 service ace, 12 digs, and 1 assisted block. The University of Dallas Volleyball team won their opening match of the Austin College Invitational against Paul Quinn College in 3 sets, 25-13, 25-16, 25-18. The Crusader Volleyball team improved to 16-9, and take on tournament host Austin Invitational later tonight. The team then hosts the Senior Day Tri-Match where they will face Howard Payne University and Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday, October 25.
The UD volleyball team fell to the Austin College Kangaroos in 4 sets, 15-25, 15-25, 23-21, 14-25. Freshman middle blocker Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) once again led the team with 12 kills, while Fuchs was the runner-up in that category with 9. Senior Scarlet Walls was also the team leader in assists again with 19. Senior Krysta Hample recorded 13 assists, and Fuentes recorded an impressive 38 digs in the 4-set match.After a win and a loss at the Austin College Invitational, the 16-10 Lady Crusaders head home for the Senior Day tri-match tomorrow starting at 12:00pm. The team takes on Howard Payne University at 12:00pm, and then faces Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 4:00pm.

In 12 sets during three games, she had 76 digs for an average of 6.33 per set. She committed only seven reception errors during that span.This is the second time Fuentes has been honored as AD3I volleyball Player of the Week, and the 5th time a Lady Crusader volleyball player has won the award this season.

Freshman middle blocker Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) and freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Baska (Tonganoxie, KS/Tonganoxie H.S.) both finished with double-digit kill totals with 18 and 10 respectively. Senior setters Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.).and Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) 56 assists, and 3 service aces. Hample had 31 assists and 2 aces, while Walls had 25 assists and 1 aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) paced UD with 31 digs.In their second match of the day against Greensboro College, UD rebounded for a 4-set win, 25-23, 27-29, 25-20, 26-24. Once again, Farrell and Fuchs were the team leaders in kills with 18 and 19. Walls and Hamples each had over 20 assists with Walls contributing 20 and Hample 24. Hample also added 5 service aces, 7 digs, and 3 block assists. The Lady Crusaders finished the University of Dallas finished their October 2-day tournament with an impressive 3-1 record. The weekend's efforts put their overall record at 14-6 on the year, including 8-2 on their home court. The Lady Crusaders volleyball team delivered a convincing victory over Sul Ross State University winning their first match of the day in first three sets 25-19, 25-12, and 25-12. Soon afterward, the team followed up the victory with an equally impressive win over the Red Dragons of SUNY-Oneonta, also in 3 sets, 25-15, 25-15, and 26-24.Against the Sul Ross State Lobos, The senior tandem of Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) and Scarlett Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) combined for a whopping 37 assists and a pair of aces. Hample had 20 assists, 1 ace, and 10 digs, while Walls had 17 assists and 1 ace. Their efforts were complimented by the freshman duo of Danielle Fuchs, (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) and Elizabeth Baska, (Tonganoxie, KS/Tonganoxie H.S.) who combined for 20 kills, 12 coming from Fuch had 1 solo block and 1 block assist. Sophomore Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) led the charge defensively providing 2 solo blocks and 4 assisted blocks, as well as 7 kills on the offensive end. Starting Libero Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) added a team high 27 digs.In a victory over SUNY-Oneonta, it was middle blockers Celina Farrell and Danielle Fuchs who led the team in kills 10 and 9 respectively. Again Hample and Walls helped set the tone offensively each with 15 assists. On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Danielle Fuchs registered 3 blocks, while sophomore Kelli Fuentes came up with 25 digs. Also worthy of mention was senior Hample's five aces.The Lady Crusaders, having improved from the two contests to 11-5 record on the year, will face Wisconsin Lutheran at 1:00pm and later Greensboro at 5:00pm tomorrow at home to round out the tournament

Sophomore middle blocker Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) also had a great game leading the team with 13 kills to go along with 3 service aces, 3 solo blocks, and 5 blocks assists. Freshmen Elizabeth Baska (Tonganoxie, TX/Tonganoxie H.S.) and Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) added in 10 and 9 kills respectively with Baska also having 3 blocks assists. She now has 2,373 in her four-year career.

KANSAS CITY, MO - University of Dallas sophomore defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX) has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents volleyball Player of the Week. Fuentes led the team with 55 digs and also contributed four service aces. She tallied 5.5 digs per game as Dallas went 2-1 over the weekend. Fuentes recorded game-highs of 24 digs versus Dubuque and four aces against UM-Morris.
In their first match of the College of St. Catherine Invitational, UD lost to the University of Dubuque in 4 games before rebounding for the win against the University of Minnesota-Morris in 3 sets. The final score of the loss against Dubuque was 21-23, 20-25, 25-22, and 28-30. The scores in the dominating victory against Minnesota-Morris were 25-19, 25-16, and 25-18. The tandem of sophomore middle blocker Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) and freshman middle blocker Danielle Fuchs (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne H.S.) led the Lady Crusaders against Dubuque with 11 and 8 kills respectively. Farrell also tied for the team lead with 3 block assists with teammate and senior setter Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.). Walls also had a team leading 16 assists and added 2 aces. Fellow senior setter Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) registered 15 assists and led the team with 3 aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) paced UD with 24 digs in the 4 game loss. She is currently is ranked number 50 on the NCAA Digs Per Set list.In the win over Minnesota-Morris, Fuchs played a major roll with 14 kills and only 3 errors in 21 attempts, while Farrell added 6 kills and led the team with 1 solo block and 2 block assists. Hample and Walls once again aided the 2 powerful middle blockers with 19 and 14 assists. Hample also recorded 5 aces. Fuentes led the team with 18 digs.The 9 and 5 Lady Crusaders are off until September 27 when they take on UT-Tyler. Next Saturday's match in Tyler, TX starts at 1:00pm.
The Lady Crusaders dominated in their first game in Minnesota against North Central University, 25-9, 25-14, and 25-12. She also had 2 solo blocks and 3 blocks assists. Hample also had 2 services aces and 3 solo blocks. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Wilder led the team with 5 service aces and added 5 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) recorded 13 digs to lead UD in that category. UD volleyball has won 7 out of their last 8 matches, and improves to an 8-4 on the year. Tomorrow Saturday, September 20 the Crusaders will play in the College of St. Catherine Invitational against Crown College at 10:00am and the University of Minnesota-Morris at 12:00pm. Both games will be played in Minneapolis.
The UD Women's Volleyball team had its 5 match win streak snapped with a loss to Williams Baptist in four games, 29-27, 15-25, 16-25, 24-26. Junior middle blocker Courtney Anderson (San Antonio, TX/Antonian H.S.) led the way with 14 kills, 2 solo blocks and 1 assisted block. Sophomore middle blocker Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) and freshman middle blocker/outside hitter Elizabeth Baska registered 8 kills a piece, while Farrell added 3 assisted blocks and 2 digs. Senior setter Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) contributed 21 assists, 3 kills, 3 digs, and 2 blocks assisted. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) added 21 digs in the losing effort. In the final game of the tournament, the Lady Crusaders rebounded to defeat tournament host Hendrix College in four games, 25-16, 25-20, 25-27, and 25-20. Sophomore middle blocker Celina Farrell had 18 kills, 4 solo blocks, and 4 assisted blocks while junior middle blocker Courtney Anderson recorded 10 kills and added 3 solo blocks and 1 assisted block. Teammates and senior setters Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) and Krysta Hample added 21 and 24 assists respectively. Fuentes, this time in a winning cause, recorded 16 digs for the Crusaders.UD Volleyball has now won 6 of their last 7 matches and their record now stands at 7-4. The team travels to Minneapolis, MN next weekend for the College of St. Catherine Invitational. They will face North Central University, Crown College, and the University of Minnesota-Morris. The Crusaders next home game will be on October the 8th when they take on the UT-Tyler Patriots at 7:00pm.

Hample also added a team leading 5 service aces.

Junior middle blocker Cortney Anderson (San Antonio, TX/Antonian H.S.) and sophomore middle blocker Celina Farrell (Corinth, TX/Lake Dallas H.S.) led the team with 9 kills a piece. Anderson had an amazing .533 attack percentage, 2 solo blocks and 1 block assist. Farrell added 3 aces and 2 solo blocks on top of her 9 kill performance. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelli Fuentes (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) registered 15 digs. Senior setters Scarlet Walls (Garland, TX/Rowlett H.S.) and Krysta Hample (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) helped the team with 16 and 11 assists respectively. Hample added a team leading 5 service aces, her and both added 4 kills.
UD continued its dominating ways with a convincing sweep of Paul Quinn, 25-18, 25-18, and 25-12. The victory propels their record to 4-3 and gives them much needed momentum for this weekend's Hendrix College Invitational in Conway, AR.
