Biology Faculty

The faculty of the Biology Department represent a variety of subdisciplines in the field, including genetics and cell biology, plant and animal physiology, molecular biology, microbiology, animal behavior, ecology, and evolutionary biology. In addition to teaching upper-division courses within their area of specialization, they also contribute to the team-taught General Biology sequence and biology courses for non-majors.

Dr. Marcy Brown Marsden

  • Associate Professor and Chair
  • Director of Environmental Science concentration
  • Haggerty Science Bldg. 140
  • (972) 721-5245
  • mebrown@udallas.edu
  • B.S., Biology, University of Dallas
  • Ph.D., Purdue University

Courses:

  • 1312/1112 General Biology II
  • 2360/2160 Environmental Science
  • 3323/3123 Vertebrate Anatomy
  • 3326/3126 Ecology

  • 3V41 Ecological Techniques
  • 3V54 Community Ecology Research

Research Interests:

Effects of the non-native plant genus Ligustrum in forested communities of north central Texas: Research involves assessment of the community-level effects of Ligustum invasion, and how demographic and physiological characteristics of this genus influence its ability to invade and persist in Texas forests.

Dr. Frank Doe

  • Associate Professor
  • Haggerty Science Bldg. 143
  • (972) 721-5047

  • 1311/1111 General Biology I
  • 3325/3125 Genetics
  • 4245 Advanced Genetics

Research Interests:

I have interests in the genetics of certain fungi, especially in the genes concerning the determination of the mating type. Also of interest are loci concerned with vegetative incompatibility and their spread in fungal populations. I have attempted to design certain fungal strains for use in the undergraduate genetics laboratory.

Much of my time is spent on advising our students interested in pursuing post-graduate work in the health professions and the biological sciences. I am also the advisor for the Pre-Health Professions Society.
