University of Dallas Alumni Attend Reunion Weekend
University of Dallas Alumni Attend Reunion Weekend by Jeff Sprick

The 2009 Alumni Reunion, held October 9 – 11, was quite successful this year. Alumni from the 4’s and 9’s gathered on campus to celebrate their time together at the University, despite the less than favorable weather that weekend.
The weekend kicked off with Friday night cocktails in the Rathskellar where a large group of alumni gathered over drinks and hors d’oeuvres to reminisce and catch up with each other.

On Saturday, the alumni met for a Texas-style barbeque, followed by the annual Alumni rugby game.  There were several different activities available for families, including a movie in Lynch Auditorium and a bounce house on the Mall. The Tower was also kept open for alumni to climb throughout the weekend.
Sybil Novinski, the University Historian, opened up the Archives department for everyone to visit and look through memorabilia and pictures.

Later that afternoon, a group gathered for the Alumni Memorial Service to pray the rosary in honor of their classmates who had passed.

On Saturday evening, alumni flocked to Upstairs Haggar for a cocktail reception, followed by dinner. During the planning for the Reunion, the Reunion Committee discussed how their Reunion gift might make the biggest impact. Because of the wonderful way that the UD faculty has influenced all UD alumni, this year’s Reunion class made the decision to give in honor of the UD faculty. And because one of the greatest needs for the school is improving the library, the alumni made sure to direct this gift towards the UD library.

At the reception, Reunion Committee member and Class Agent, John Lynch ’04, presented a check to Interim President Bob Galecke on behalf of the Reunion classes that year.

The alumni then enjoyed an Italian dinner and were treated with a presentation by Dr. William Frank of the Philosophy Department. Dr. Frank spoke on the importance of the Rome Semester and its relevance to the liberal arts curriculum.
The weekend ended with Mass on Sunday in the Church of the Incarnation and a coffee and donuts reception.

As seen in the photograph above, we had a wonderful group of alumni back on campus (Photo courtesy of Rick Yeatts). We are so delighted that so many were able to make it to the Reunion this year and look forward to next year’s reunion of 5’s and 0’s!
