Hiring International Students...It's a Good Idea!

Our international students represent some of the best and brightest management talent from around the world. Their language skills and cultural knowledge are invaluable resources in the global marketplace. 20% of our graduate business schools' student body is comprised of international students from over 60 countries. These students are strong academically and contribute a great deal to the Graduate School of Management community through a wide range of knowledge and experiences.

Most of the international students hold F-1 visas. Under this type of visa, students are eligible for internships through Curricular Practical Training during their programs and full-time employment through Optional Practical Training for up to twelve months after graduation. To hire an international student under an F-1 visa for an internship or full-time employment, the employer must simply send the student an offer letter on official letterhead and include the following information: name and address of employer, name of immediate supervisor, position title and brief job description, beginning and ending dates, and salary. Our office will take care of obtaining the work authorization for the student.

Many organizations choose to hire international students for short-time training in the United States followed by permanent employment in their home country. If you have employment needs outside the U.S., international MBA students are a great resource. Their education, combined with their knowledge of multiple languages and cultures, is an asset to any international organization.

Many international students are such strong candidates that organizations choose to sponsor them for long-term employment in the United States beyond the short-term training period. Though the citizenship situations vary according to the student, his or her home country, and other factors, most Human Resources department are familiar with the process involved in obtaining an H-1B visa.

If you would like more information on international students, please contact Marilyn White, Director of International Student Services, at (972) 721-5059 or mjwhite@gsm.udallas.edu.
