(Date) Mr. Robert M. Willis President Republic Corporation 1201 Elm Street Dallas, TX 75201 Dear Mr. Willis: With more than twenty years of laboratory science experience in Academic and Industrial settings and a reputation as an aggressive and innovative researcher, I believe I could make a contribution to your organization. I am currently employed as a research scientist by an international firm working with cloned hyper expressed and engineered bacterial protein genes. Prior to this period, I was associated with the University of California-San Francisco doing laboratory work involving the technology of recombinant DNA in projects to study the molecular basis of the regulation of the immune response. I have worked with Dr. Kenneth Hard at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute on the regulation of human interferon gama gene. Also, for a number of years, I was associated with the laboratory of Dr. Christine Guthrie, University of California-San Francisco doing work in the enzymology of tRNA processing using production of bacteriophage T4-specific tRNAs as a experimental system. My undergraduate and graduate work was done in the laboratory of Dr. Harry Noller, Professor of Biology, University of California Santa Cruz. There I worked on projects to study ribosomal structure and function. This work required separation biochemistry of proteins and RNAs, chemical modifications of proteins and RNA, and in vitro functional assays. As you can see, I have acquired over several years, a great deal of experience with techniques used in molecular biology. I have generally worked quite independently, requiring little supervision. On the assumption you may be interested in a motivated successful researcher, I am enclosing my resume for your consideration. After you have reviewed my accomplishments, I would appreciate an opportunity to meet with you and discuss how I can contribute to the success of your organization. I will call you next week to arrange an appointment. Sincerely, William Aragon

Dear Mr. Willis:
Due to a recent acquisition of National Restaurants, a division of Continental Restaurants, by ABC Inc., my present position as Director of Food Standards and Quality Control has been eliminated. Therefore, I am now seeking a new and challenging position in an organization with similar needs as Continental Restaurants.
A brief summary of my background is found in the enclosed resume. I believe you will find that my contributions to the restaurant chain had much to do with the $40 million profit we made on the sale of the organization.
Although my most recent experience has been in Continental Cuisine, my prior experiences as Director of Food Services and Executive Chef in hotels and gourmet restaurants make me uniquely qualified for any senior level food and beverage management position. My annual compensation at Continental with bonus was $73,000.
Should you have a client assignment matching my background or wish to set up a mutually convenient appointment, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Pierre A. Ricon

Dear Mr. Willis:
When I joined my current employer four years ago as Production Superintendent, quality control was rejecting 8% of all printed circuit boards. Today, that figure is 2% and continuing downward.
You may be interested in my board experience in solving production problems. Some accomplishments include:
Reduced absenteeism 42% and turnover 36%. With less turnover we invested more in training, with a corresponding increase in quality and productivity. While rejections dropped from 8% to 2%, productivity increased 22% per employee.
Introduced an idea program with incentives. The number of implemented suggestions increased from four in the year prior to the program to 54 in 1986. Bonuses cost $18,000, while documented savings amounted to $192,000.
Implemented an inventory control system. During a time when sales increased 46% inventory increased only 12%. Shipment delays due to unavailable parts dropped from 153 in 1983 to 21 in 1985.
Instituted a company-wide safety program. Lost time due to accidents was reduced 27% in the first six months. Reductions in insurance premiums will save $240,000 in 1987.
I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1968 with a degree in business. Since then, I have experienced rapid promotions during 19 years in manufacturing.
I'll call you next week to arrange a time when we might meet for 15 to 20 minutes.
Sincerely,
James R. Wilson

Dear Mr. Willis:
Powers Booth, a common acquaintance of ours, suggested that I contact you. Recently my position at Hills Bank was eliminated placing me in todays job market. I have an excellent banking background particularly in trust operations and employee benefit trust, which could lead me in several career directions. In addition to my technical expertise in trust operations and employee benefit trust, I believe that I have the personal qualities to be successful in a sales capacity as well.
Powers indicated that because of your knowledge of the financial services industry, you would be an excellent source of ideas or information for me as I assess various career options. Any advice or counsel you could share with me would be most appreciated. I would like to have a brief meeting with you, perhaps 20 minutes of your time, to get your thoughts on how I might best utilize my skills and experience.
My resume is enclosed which gives you some more detail about my work history. I will call your office in a few days to arrange a time for us to meet. Thanking you in advance.
Sincerely,
