Affiliate Accounting Professor Joseph J. Oliveti, CPA, MBA has more than 30 years of business experience.  Upon graduating from St. John's University in New York City in 1979 with a BS in Accounting, he was awarded a graduate assistantship at St. John's University working in the computer lab while attending full time and graduated with an MBA  in Public Accounting.  In 1980, he began his career with Touché Ross & Co. (one of the Big 8 accounting firms, now part of Deloitte & Touché) in New York City. He transferred within Touché Ross & Co to their Dallas, TX office in 1982. While at Touché Ross & Co, he worked on and led audit engagements for a variety audit of clients in the real estate, oil and gas, insurance, brokerage and manufacturing industries. In 1983 he accepted a position with Hines Interests, an international commercial real estate developer. He was promoted to Senior Controller and was responsible for mixed use real estate projects in Dallas, TX; New Orleans, LA; Miami, FL; Chevy Chase, MD and Moscow, Russia. In 1997 he accepted the position of Vice President of Accounting at Hillwood Development (a Perot company) working at the Alliance Airport development in far north Fort Worth, Texas.

In 1999 he accepted the position of Vice President of Finance and Accounting with Cooper & Stebbins, the developer of Southlake Town Square, an open air mixed use facility in Southlake, Texas.

In late 2001, he registered with the Texas State Board of Accountancy and formed Joseph J. Oliveti, CPA and began a career as a business consultant focusing on real estate and manufacturing clients. He obtained his CPA in 1986, and is a member of the AICPA, Texas State Board of Accountancy, and the American Accounting Association.

He started his teaching career in 2003 at North Lake College in Irving, TX as an Adjunct Professor of Accounting, teaching undergraduate students Financial and Managerial Accounting until 2006. He started teaching Auditing Principles at the University of Dallas–Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business in 2006 and has expanded his course work to include: Managerial Finance, Controllership, Forensic and AIS. He has also taught Accounting courses at Tarrant County College (2010-2012). During 2012 he served successfully on the Dean’s AACSB Accreditation Committee. In 2011, he was recognized as the Adjunct Professor of the Year by the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business. During 2011 - 2012 he served in the Learning Center as Finance Coach. In 2013 he accepted a position in the Dean’s office for the College of Business assisting the Dean in formulating, monitoring, and managing an effective business strategy for the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business.

He has been married since 1982, and has four children – three older children are out on their own and one active 15 year old is still at home. We currently share our home with a goofy dog and an aloof cat.
