Dr. Eidt has taught at the University of Dallas since fall 2006. He has been department chair since 2009. His teaching and research interests include the literature of the 19th century, romantic music aesthetics, poetry, German Opera, and German film. He is director of the German Program and a participating member of the Comparative Literary Traditions faculty. Dr. Eidt has published articles on Rainer Maria Rilke, the intersections of music and iterature in 19th century Germany, the films of Werner Herzog, as well as translations of German poetry. Dr. Eidt is also on the board of trustees and programing committee of the Dallas Goethe Center, which promotes German language and culture in the DFW area.

Dr. Laura Eidt has taught in the German, Spanish, and Comparative Literature programs at the University of Dallas since 2006, and is co-director of the Comparative Literary Traditions Program. She is particularly interested in the interrelations of various art forms, especially literature, the visual arts, and film. Having studied English, Spanish, French, and Italian (in addition to her native German) at various points in her life, she is also highly interested in how languages are learned, how they are related, and effective ways of teaching foreign languages.

Valeria Forte, professor of Italian Language and Literature, has taught at the University of Dallas since fall 2002. Her academic expertise combines two major areas of research: literature and archaeology. Her fields of interest are Italian and Classic Literature, Jewish Studies, and Mediterranean Archaeology.

Nicole Lasswell is an affiliate instructor of Spanish and has taught at the University of Dallas for 5 years. Not only is she an instructor here, she’s also an alumni of the university (’03). It is her extensive knowledge of the UD experience, and her great love for the university and its core curriculum, that brought her back to teach at UD

Dr. María Luisa Pérez-Bernardo has taught at the University of Dallas since 2003-2004. Her principal interest and area of research lie in the field of 19th century Spanish literature, with special interest in realism and naturalism. More precisely, her investigations center on Emilia Pardo Bazán’s narratives, and the intersection between literature and journalism in 19th century Spain. She has written several articles on Pardo Bazán, and has presented various papers at different international conferences.
Professor Pérez-Bernardo received her Ph.D in Spanish from The Catholic University of America. She holds an A.B.D. in English Philology from University of Valladolid (Spain), a M.A. in Spanish from West Virginia University, and a B.A. in English Philology from University of Valladolid (Spain).

Marie-J. Poublan has been teaching at the University of Dallas since 2007. Born and raised in France, her teaching career took her from France to the USA, via Montreal, Canada. Before coming to UD, she had spent 7 years as a Consultant for the College Board in French Language and Literature, in the Southwest Region, publishing the teaching of AP French. From her yearly travels between France and the US, she brings updates on French culture and civilization. She is most interested in various Francophone Literatures and in French cinema, which she incorporates in the courses she teaches.

Irina Rodriguez has taught Spanish at the University of Dallas since 2010. Fluent in Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese in addition to her native Russian and Ukrainian, she is greatly interested in world literature. Irina has extensive experience working in university-level teaching, international marketing and interpreting. She holds a Master’s degree in Philology and Foreign Languages and an M.S. in Journalism.

Dr. Borja received a B.S. Ed. from Baylor University and an M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa, with all course work completed in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She earned a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. As a doctoral candidate, Dr. Borja received a Graduate Fellowship and multiple Kennedy Fellowships for Golden Age Studies. Her dissertation studied the fifteenth century Castilian novel, Cárcel de Amor, using a structural thematic approach to analyze the text’s political and metanarrative content. Dr. Borja taught at the University of North Texas for three years before joining the faculty at the University of Dallas in 2009.
