MS Degree Curriculum

MS Prerequisite Requirements

To be admitted to the MS program, an applicant must have already met all prerequisites. Applicants who have not yet completed all prerequisites will be asked to fulfill these prerequisites first in order to be reconsidered for admission to the MS (see below for ways in which prerequisites may be fulfilled).

Prerequisite courses for the MS programs must be equivalent to the following (student must
receive grade of C or better):
• Accounting:
ACCT 5120 Foundations of Financial Accounting
ACCT 5150 Foundations of Managerial Accounting
BUAD 5120 Foundations of Statistics
BUAD 5150 Foundations of Management Science
• IT/IA/ITSM:
BUAD 5120 Foundations of Statistics
BUAD 5150 Foundations of Management Science
Two courses in IT, IA, ITSM or Computer Science (they may both
be at the same level of difficulty)

Regarding the Statistics Prerequisite:
• A graduate level statistics class will transfer in for both Foundations of Statistics and Foundations of Management Science
• An undergraduate level statistics course will waive either Fndts. of Statistics or Fndts. of Mgmt. Science, whichever course is similar in content
• Students who have no prior statistics coursework will be required to take the equivalent of both statistics courses

Applicants may complete all necessary prerequisites for the MS program by: (a) taking GSM courses as a Special student, (b) completing coursework at an accredited college or university and providing an official transcript of that coursework, (c) successfully completing a CLEP or Challenge exam on the subject (as approved by the Assistant Dean), or (d) a combination of GSM courses (as a Special student), official transcript coursework from another accredited college or university, and/or CLEP/Challenge exams.

MS Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission, all applicants for the MS program must have a U.S. bachelor's degree (with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000 on a 4.000 scale) from a regionally-accredited college or university (or a comparable foreign degree). Applicants with graduate coursework must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.000 in those hours to qualify for admission. All students must be in good academic standing with all colleges attended.

To gain admission to the Master of Science (MA) program, an applicant must have successfully completed the prerequisite coursework related to the discipline of the MS program for which admission is being sought (see prerequisites listed above). In addition, applicants must satisfy two of the following measures of capability:

1. A GPA of 3.000 or better on a 4.000 scale in the final 60 semester credit hours completed at the undergraduate level
2. A GMAT score of 500 or better or a GRE score of 1020 or better with 560 quantitative, 460 verbal, and 4.5 on the writing section
3. At least 12 semester hours of graduate work at a regionally accredited U.S. College or University with a GPA of 3.200 or better on a 4.00 scale
4. Four years or more of relevant managerial, professional or military work experience

Due to the nature of the MS degree, there are no course waivers based on undergraduate course work. Up to six credit hours of relevant graduate course work may be transferred and course substitutions may be made when courses previously taken are substantially similar to those offered in the MS but do not qualify for transfer.

MS Conditional Admission
Applicants who meet one Capability Measure may be considered for Conditional Admission.

An applicant granted Conditional Admission must complete no less than six credit hours and no more than twelve before being considered for Full Admission status. He/she must maintain a 3.200 GPA for full admission into GSM and may not receive a grade of less than a B-.

Students may not move from the Certificate program to Conditional MS admission; they must meet two measures of capability in order to be considered for the MS.

MS Bridge Admission
Those wishing to apply for the MS program from countries offering a three-year bachelor's degree will be considered for the MS Bridge Program. Accommodating those otherwise ineligible to pursue an MS, the MS Bridge requires the completion of 43 credit hours with no eligibility for courses waivers or transfers. Applicants may either be admitted fully or conditionally based on the criteria above (however, the GPA will be calculated based on the cumulative undergraduate GPA, not on that of the last 60 hours).

MS/MBA Dual Degree Admission
The admission policy for the MS-MBA is the same as that of the MS, including prerequisite courses. There is no Foundation Admission into the MS-MBA.
