Project management is a dynamic and growing field that can be applied in a variety of businesses wherever a program endeavor is undertaken to achieve a particular goal. According to the Project Management Institute, the certifying organization in the field, project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to meet the requirements of a particular initiative. The five basic processes examined are: initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing. The nine knowledge areas students in this concentration will focus on are management expertise in project integration, project scope, project time, project cost, project quality, project human resources, project communications, project risk management, and project procurement. This concentration is designed to prepare professionals from any discipline to successfully manage complex projects across diverse environments. The curriculum builds on the guiding principles provided by the Project Management Institute (PMI) with the assumption that most students will be interested in pursuing the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam upon completion of their graduate studies.
The University of Dallas College of Business is a PMI Global Registered Education Provider. The PMI Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.) Program is designed to facilitate the ongoing professional development of PMI Members, Project Management Professionals (PMPs), and other project management stakeholders by linking stakeholders and training coordinators with qualified Providers and products.
