“Institutional research is the sum total of all activities directed at describing the full spectrum of functions (educational, administrative, and support) occurring within a college or university. Institutional research activities examine those functions in their broadest definitions, and embrace data collection and analytical strategies in support of decision-making at the institution.” (Strategies for the Practice of Institutional Research: Concepts, Resources, and Applications, page 1)
As the official source of statistical data on the University of Dallas, the Institutional Research Office is responsible for
- Reporting institutional data to federal and state entities, e.g., US Department of Education, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas
- Responding to external data requests from groups such as accrediting bodies and higher education organizations
- Providing data to publishers for college rankings and guidebooks
Other key responsibilities of the Institutional Research Office include
- Providing leadership in assessment of institutional effectiveness
- Assisting with university strategic planning
- Building and maintaining data warehouse
- Responding to internal requests for data
- Conducting applied research studies in support of policy analysis, planning, assessment, and institutional decision-making
