The general public is welcome to visit the William A. Blakley Library and may search the library's online catalog in the library or at home through the University of Dallas Library website. Anyone interested
in checking out materials from the library should purchase a courtesy card or obtain a TexShare card from their local library. Our electronic databases and reference services
are available to anyone who comes into the library, although remote access to these services is only available to current faculty, staff, and students of the University of Dallas. |
Courtesy Cards
Although the collection of the William A. Blakley Library is primarily to support the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Dallas, courtesy cards extend library borrowing privileges to persons not affiliated with the University of Dallas for a limited time. Courtesy cards are avilable to individuals who are:
- Residents of Texas
- A current member of the Library Associates of the University of Dallas Library (Membership is $50 per academic year)
- Visiting Scholar
- TexShare Cardholder
Policies for Courtesy Card Users are as follows:
- Courtesy cards are non-transferable and are issued for one year. Renewal must be made in person at the circulation desk.
- The individual named on the courtesy card is responsible for all items borrowed with the card and for any fines or charges incurred.
- The courtesy card and a picture ID must be presented by the person named on the card to check out materials or use other library services.
- Courtesy card users may borrow 5 items simultaneously.
- The loan period for courtesy card users is 21 days.
- Library books that have not been recalled may be renewed up to 3 times in one of the following ways
- Overdue charges are accrued daily. Current rates are available at the circulation desk and outlined in the Checkout Policies
- Courtesy card users must notify the library imediately of any change of address
- Courtesy card borrowing privileges will be revoked for the following reasons:
- User fails to respond to a recall request
- Books are not returned within 60 days of due date
- Unpaid charges
- More than 2 lost books within a calendar year period
- Failure to comply with all Library Policies
TexShare Cards and other contractual agreements
The William A. Blakley Library is a participant in TexShare and other contractual agreements. TexShare cardholders must
present a current TexShare card, and a picture ID before library privileges are instated. Those students who are under contractual agreements with the William A. Blakley Library will
be issued library cards through their home institution. These cards, along with a picture ID must be presented before applying for library privileges.
OCLC Cards
The Online Computer Library Center and the Association for Research Libraries have developed a program that allows full-time faculty members of participating institutions borrowing privileges and on-site access to library collections of member institutions throughout the United States. Full-time teaching faculty members and librarians may obtain an OCLC Card and a list of member institutions from the Circulation Department in the Blakley Library.
Library Copyright Policy for Visitors
The William A. Blakley Library at the University of Dallas follows all federal copyright laws and guidelines.
Photocopying and other reproductions in the Blakley Library are regulated by Title 17, United States Code, which governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials:
"Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any prupose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement."
The Blakley Library reserves the right to refuse any copying order if, in its judgment, fulfullment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law. The William A. Blakley Library has no culpability if any copied materials are in violation of U.S. copyright law.
