French Fall 2008 Courses

Quelques conseils

If you have just (will have just) finished Intermediate French II (MFr 2312) or the equivalent, you should enroll in MFr 3310 (French Reading & Expression).

If you are a bit further along, say if you have already taken at least one upper-division (3000-level) French course, you should probably enroll in MFr 3343 French Literary Tradition III.

The Advanced Grammar module is not particularly advised for 1st & 2nd-year students.

For how the French cycle of courses works, see the French major and the Language-and-Literature Unit.

For more advice, email Stephen Maddux.

Courses Fall 2007

MFr 3310. Reading and Expression in French.

Intensive practice in reading and writing French. Prerequisite: MFr 2312 or the equivalent.

This is the first in the six-course cycle of the French Language-and-Literature Unit. It is a "bridge" course between Intermediate French and higher-level literature courses.

Do not confuse this course with MCTF 5311 French for Reading Knowledge, which is *not* intended as a course for French majors, concentrators, or laluists.

MFr 3343. French Literary Tradition III.

Third in a series of three courses surveying French literature; this one covers the 19th and 20th centuries.

The three FLT courses can be taken in any order, and normally after Reading & Expresion (MFr 3310) and Advanced Communication (MFr 3311, 3312, or 3313).

MFr 3147. Advanced French Grammar III.

Third in a series of three 1-credit courses. French majors/laluists should take all three. Normally these should be taken in the Junior and Senior years, not in the first two years. Order does not matter.

CLT courses for French majors

French majors can take up to two CLT (Comparative Literary Traditions) courses (with the designation MLT) as part of their ten required upper-division courses. For CLT offerings this Fall, go to CLT Fall.
