The Senior Paper

Every Senior will submit for approval by the co-directors of the French Program a paper originally written for one of the upper-division French literature courses.   This paper

1.   Must contain at least fifteen full pages of text (approximately 2000 characters, with spaces, per page, or a total of 30,000 characters)

2.   Must be on a literary (or other approved) topic of merit

3.   Demonstrate familiarity with, and ability to handle, appropriate secondary sources

3.   Demonstrate a solid grasp of essential French grammar and the first elements of good French expository style

4.   Demonstrate good reading, good thinking, and good writing (The student is urged to read and ponder le Guide de l'écrivain ).

If the paper as originally written does not meet these criteria, then the student will need to work on it further, under the direction of one of the instructors.

The Senior Paper should be submitted no later than half-way through the Spring semester of the Senior year.

If the student takes the course called Senior Honors Thesis , the paper written for that course will serve as the Senior Paper.
