Collegium Cantorum
Mission Statement
The role of Collegium Cantorum is to add our voices to the beautiful tradition of Church music which has continued through the ages. We believe that through sacred music, most particularly Latin polyphony and Gregorian Chant, we draw nearer to the Divine, transcending the earthly in search of our Lord.By singing this music, we raise our voices in prayer. We also hope to draw the listener to a greater appreciation for the tradition from which this beautiful music comes.
History
Collegium Cantorum, the liturgical choir of the University of Dallas, which specializes in sixteenth-century Latin Polyphony, was organized in the fall of 1993. From the beginning, our mission has been to promote, preserve, and perform the traditional music of the Roman Catholic Church in its original context: the Mass and other liturgical services.
The Collegium is composed of UD undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni. Since the University does not offer a degree in music, these singers are majors in all disciplines of study at our school. Therefore, Collegium truly is the University of Dallas in miniature; and through our local appearances and our travel, we serve as ambassadors, reflecting the spiritual and academic values of the University through our music.
