Happy Spring!

I am so glad that spring is finally here; it has certainly been a long winter. It is enjoyable to see our Crusaders taking advantage of the warmer weather - playing frisbee on the Mall, watching a softball game or just sitting on the lawn studying - it is definitely great to be outside enjoying the sunshine.

I cannot believe that the academic year is almost over! Classes end on May 8, and final exams begin on May 10. This time of year can be stressful for students. To lessen the stress, it helps for students to develop good study skills and take care of themselves with healthy thinking, eating, sleeping and exercising. Have your student visit with Sharon Oster in the Academic Success Office or check out these study tips and resources. You can also send some love to your Crusader during finals week by purchasing a Final Exam Gift Basket from Student Foundation for $25.

Spring semester finals end on May 15, but you'll want to plan ahead for moving students out of the residence halls and on-campus student apartments. Click HERE for important end-of-the-year move out information.

There are still many upcoming events and important dates for parents and students throughout the semester. Mayterm, summer and fall class pre-registration for currently enrolled students began on Monday. This is Student Employee Appreciation Week, and we thank all student employees for their hard work in all the various departments across campus. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and UD has made a concerted effort to enhance programming to prevent personal and sexual violence as we express our commitment to being a community that cares for and watches out for each other. The Drama Department is currently presenting Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov. The UD Music Department has enlisted Dr. Rachelle Fleming to lead a vocal master class series on April 12 and 13. Student Activities just hosted Mallapalooza last weekend, RHA hosts Lazy Faire this weekend and Spring Formal is April 25. Alumni Relations will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 19. So you can see we have a busy rest of the semester!

Thursday, April 17 is the last class day before Easter break. All residential areas remain open during Easter break. Food service, however, ends with lunch on Thursday, April 17 and will resume with dinner on Monday, April 21. Classes resume on Tuesday, April 22.

Congratulations to all the families that have a graduating student in the Class of 2014! You made it! You are probably feeling a great sense of joy and happiness. As we know, it takes the entire family to reach this milestone. Good luck to each of you as this chapter winds down and the next chapter begins. Click HERE for complete Commencement event information.

Do you know any homeschooled students who are interested in learning more about the admission process and academic challenges that exist for them at UD? Encourage them to register for our Homeschool Open House. This will take place on Thursday, July 10th from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Registration is now open online. This event is open to all homeschoolers in high school.

We are also in a period of rolling admission right now for fall 2014. Students who are interested in attending UD this coming fall can still complete an application. Guidelines for applying are available HERE.

May 1 is just around the corner! Our admitted students know this as National Candidate Reply date, the date by which they must let the schools to which they have been accepted know whether or not they will attend in the fall. We encourage all of our admitted students to be in touch with their admission counselor with any questions they might have about that process! We are looking forward to welcoming a great class of freshmen to the Class of 2018!

Mark October 3-5, 2014, on your calendars! Plans are underway for next year's Alumni and Family Weekend! This is a great way for the entire family to share in your student's UD odyssey and to experience what it means to be part of the Crusader family. More information will be provided in upcoming e-newsletters. Also, follow us on Facebook for the most up-to-date information.

All the best to you and your family,

Meal Plan Changes for 2014-2015

In an ongoing effort to improve student services at UD, new residential meal plans will be in place beginning with the 2014-2015 academic year. The Haggar Café will be open 12 hours daily next year to accommodate students on the brand new "All-Access Meal Plan." Expanded hours of service will eliminate the previous need for a "meal equivalency" in the Rathskeller Food Court for students who could not attend posted meal times due to schedule conflicts. Financial Aid

Is your student looking for scholarship opportunities? Click HERE to find out about private scholarships your student can apply for. Forgot to file your FAFSA? It is not tool late to submit your 2014-2015 FAFSA to make sure your student is considered for need-based financial aid for next year. Complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

The Council of Independent Colleges recently released a fact sheet that contains new research to set the record straight by countering myths and providing facts about student debt. Read more...

Rome and Summer Programs

Unlike most study-abroad programs, the UD Rome Program offers students the opportunity to experience firsthand the roots of our faith and culture. Click HERE to read about Summer Rome Programs and for information for prospective Romers.

Textbook Rentals

Textbook rental returns are fast approaching. Students are encouraged to return rented texts and sell back purchased texts after completing the final for each class. The UD Bookstore experienced long waits and exasperated students in December when students waited until the last day of finals to return rented textbooks. Encourage your student to plan ahead and make time to return rented texts in person - don't leave the books with a friend/roommate to return. Monday, May 19, is the last day to return rented textbooks. Students will begin receiving email reminders about rental returns starting May 9. Three reminder emails will be sent. Failure to return rented texts could jeopardize a student's ability to rent texts in the future.
