Welcome to the UD family! We understand the important role you have played in preparing your student to attend college. We also know how important it is for parents, the university and the student to work together. For these reasons, we invite you to attend Parent Orientation
Move In 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
All new residents may go directly to their assigned residence hall and pick up their room key and then move into their new residence hall room. Orientation Leaders will be available to help unload cars. (After 5:00 pm, room keys may be picked up at the Campus Safety Office in Haggar University Center.)
Parent Mixer 8:00 pm
Meet other freshmen parents!
Campus Open 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Offices of Financial Aid, Business Office, Student Life & Housing, Printing and Postal, and the Bookstore will be open to help you with any last minute questions and to get your student ready for the first day of classes.
Commuter Check In 8:00 am
Commuter students and their parents may pick up orientation packets.
Athlete Parents: Q & A 8:00 am
Welcome and Orientation Overview 9:00 am
All new students and their families are invited to this session welcoming them into the UD community.
Academic Policies and Procedures 10:00 am
Undergraduate Deans, key administrators and staff will discuss the academic program - including advising, registration, choice of major and the Core Curriculum.
Lunch 11:00 am & 12 noon (according to small orientation group division)
Academic/Faculty Expectations 11:00 am & 12 noon
What is it like to go to class at UD? What do professors expect from their students? What should students expect from their professors? Come be part of a lively discussion between a UD faculty member and UD students so that you can be in the know!
Life Outside the Classroom 1:00 pm
How cans students get plugged into campus? You will hear from Campus Ministry, Student Activities, Athletics, Office of Personal & Career Development and Residence Life about the non-academic life at UD.
Safety, Health, Wellness & Student Success 2:00 pm
Representatives from Campus Safety, the Health and Counseling Centers, and Dining Services provide information and discuss the services offered.
New Parent Transitions 3:00 pm
UD Counselor Mike Brock discusses the new role parents have now that they are parents of a college student.
Mass 5:00 pm
The University Chaplain will preside over this special Mass to welcome all new families into the UD community.
Welcome Student Reception 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Immediately following Mass, we officially close our New Parent Orientation. Meet other new classmates and parents over hors d'oeuvres. You will have time to explore some of Dallas/Fort Worth's delicious dining options with your family before saying goodbye. Make sure to leave time for hugs, kisses and goodbyes as the students have been invited to Casino Night which begins at 9:30 pm.
