Rome Orientation

Thursday, the 23rd of January marked the opening of the Rome Campus and the arrival of the 2008 Spring class. On that day, 101 students moved into their dorm rooms, took campus orientation tours, and attended the convocation ceremonies that marked the beginning of the semester.

The next day, the 24th of January, those same UD students eagerly headed to Rome for an early morning visit to Saint Peter's Basilica and for walking tours that would orient them to Rome's historic center.

Following a Mass offered by Msgr. Thomas Fucinaro, as well as a bit of time in which to explore Saint Peter's on their own, students followed faculty and staff members through the streets of Rome, making stops at some of its most famous attractions, such as Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps.

The group then congregated on Piazza del Campidoglio, a public space designed by Michelangelo in the sixteenth century, to hear a brief address by the Rome campus's academic dean, Dr. Peter Hatlie, before strolling through the Roman Forum and past the Colosseum as they made their way to a celebratory pizza lunch.
