The University of Dallas Student Activities and Leadership Center complements the mission of the University by creating involvement opportunities and environments that inspire students to become active members of the campus and community. Working in collaboration with faculty and staff, the Center offers a wide array of educational, cultural, social and recreational programming that foster student learning and development.

A complete college education is more than just books, classes and a degree. The University of Dallas offers a wide variety of clubs and organizations that you can become involved with to enhance your collegiate experience. In addition to the student run organizations, our office offers recreational athletic competition, the opportunity for students to represent their class or community, and several programs from concerts to lectures and everything in between.

Student involvement at the University of Dallas offers you the chance for personal and professional development, as well as social and cultural enrichment. With so many opportunities available, which one(s) are best for you? Read on for more information or contact us via email or phone: 972.721.5273.

The Student Activities and Leadership Center coordinates the monthly Student Activities Calendar/Newsletter. The calendar can also be accessed via the U.D. website. A newsletter is included to showcase certain larger events and remind everyone of what’s happening on campus. To have information regarding any events included in either of these publications, stop by and complete an Event Information Sheet, or fill out the Online Event Information Form . The Student Activities and Leadership Center is also the office that coordinates Event Registration Forms and Alcohol Permits. In addition to all of this, our office maintains a detailed listing of all the activities being advertised for the UD student body. Call 972-721-5273 and our student workers can help you find out about what’s happening on campus.

Active participation in clubs and organizations is stressed for all students to develop their leadership and interaction skills outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to get involved and even form new clubs if the clubs currently in existence are not meeting their interests or needs. In the last five years we have doubled the number of active student organizations from 25 to approximately 50.

Whether you know it or not, you are already a member of this organization if you are a full-time student at the University of Dallas. SG not only serves as a liaison between students and the administration, but is also responsible for a wide range of educational and social programs that enhance campus life. It is the governing body for 40+ student organizations on campus. SG is here to serve you. Your input is desired and welcomed. Please become active.

The Programming Board serves as the primary activities organization for the students at the University of Dallas. The organization, which is part of SG, provides the campus community with a variety of recreational, cultural, educational and social activities. Events include: comedy shows, lectures, cultural activities, music events, films, coffeehouses and dances. Program Board is open to all creative, dedicated and enthusiastic UD students. Through working with this group, students are better able to develop out-of-classroom skills, broaden leadership abilities, create new friendships and enhance their overall college experience.

Designed to encourage participation in an action-packed, competitive sports program. A variety of major sports are offered, including volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, and softball. Weekend sport events include water games, frisbee, tennis, and sand volleyball. Student participation in intramurals makes it one of the largest on-campus activities outside the classroom. Contact the Recreational Sports Office at x4102 for a schedule and more information.

Dallas Year is a unique program for UD first year students. Dallas Year fosters out-of-classroom relationships between the faculty, staff, and students while exploring the cultural offerings of the
Metroplex. These popular outings include trips to museums, operas, symphonies, sporting events, music and dance events, zoos, theater productions, and more. The event and transportation is provided at a nominal fee.
First year students (this includes transfer students) have priority for these events. Students may sign up two weeks prior to the event. Half of the tickets are reserved for new students. Waiting lists are maintained, and students are encouraged to contact the SALC if they are unable to attend so that another student may go in his/her place.

Every fall the Student Activities and Leadership Center sponsors Charity Week, an event almost as old as the University itself. Charity Week is coordinated by the junior class and meant to bring the University together while raising money to donate to national and local charities. Every year between $15,000 and $20,000 is raised through various events and activities and distributed to various charities chosen by the Charity Week committee chaired by two junior co-chairs.

The University of Dallas strives to educate and to develop the whole person. The Student Activities and Leadership Center endeavors to encourage students as they discover and develop their individual talents. Student Development Programs include such services as substance education, heritage awareness programming, and an extended new student orientation. Through these services, opportunities are provided to allow each student to develop personal and interpersonal skills. A variety of campus programs are offered throughout the academic year, which focus on such topics as time management, relationships, health and wellness, stress management, and academic support skills.

The longest standing UD tradition is once again something we can be proud of. Years ago, with the change of the drinking age in Texas, a University sponsored Groundhog party was cancelled. Students not wanting to lose the tradition took the event underground. Needing to do something because the event had gotten out of control the University once again undertook the celebration in 2000. Since then the event has once again become one of the few weekends every student looks forward to each year. Now instead of just a drunken-party in the woods we sponsor entertainment in the Rat, a proclamation involving the President and a faculty groundhog on the mall, a 5K run, sporting events and a party at Groundhog park for students, faculty, staff and alumni. With live bands, mini-bonfires, smore’s, hot chocolate and beer, there’s something for everyone. The event is planned by students, in conjunction with the office of Student Activities, and over ½ the student body participates in some way.
