2008-2009 Annual Housing Registration Guidelines for CURRENT students
(Next academic year housing for CURRENTLY enrolled students)
Students who will no longer fall under the residency requirement at the start of the fall 2008 term are NOT guaranteed on-campus housing. This includes juniors who now fall under the temporary suspension of the residency requirement. On-campus housing applicants who do not fall under the residency requirement for 2008-2009 should be prepared for placement upon a ‘wait’ list if applying for any type of on-campus housing.
Across the street from campus, Tower Village Apartments is accepting applications on a 'first come, first served' basis. Otherwise, there are many other apartment complexes within a short drive of campus. These may be researched via any number of online apartment locator services.
Additional changes may be made as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
- All students who will still fall under the Residency Requirement who do not complete the necessary paperwork to establish official residency status for next year will be placed in “To Be Assigned” housing and charged the standard room and board fees.
- This includes current commuters who on the first fall class day will still be under the age of 21 and not yet a senior or junior.
- This also includes all students going to Rome next year who still fall under the residency requirement, regardless of semester. As students are officially accepted into the Rome Program, Irving campus housing charges will then be replaced with Rome campus housing charges on Business Office accounts.
- Students are responsible for reading both the details of their University of Dallas Housing Contract and the Residence Hall Policies as listed in the Student Handbook and on this Student Life web site.
On-Campus Housing Exceptions
AUTOMATIC EXEMPTIONS
- Students wishing to live off-campus for the 2008/2009 academic year who qualify for an automatic exemption to the Residency Requirement are still required to complete a Commuter Form for submission to the Office of Student Life prior to the General Room Lottery on Thursday, April 17th.
PETITION REQUIRED
- Students who do NOT qualify for an automatic exemption but wish to live off-campus for other reasons during the 2008/2009 academic year should first read the Exemption Petition FAQ's and then complete the on line Exemption Petition Form for submission to the Office of Student Life by Friday, March 28th after the Irving Spring/Easter break (March 20th for current spring Romers) and subsequent Housing Registration process beginning April 14th. The Exemption Petition Committee will meet shortly thereafter to determine the validity of the exemption requests received and to either grant or deny the requests prior to the start of housing registration. Students will continue to be billed accordingly until such time as an exemption may be granted.
- The Exemption Petition Form is also available for download in .pdf format here and upon completion may be faxed to 972.721.5291 or mailed to the Exemption Petition Committee in care of the Office of Student Life at 1845 E. Northgate Dr. #699, Irving, TX 75062
- Students taking automatic exemptions (form completion still required - see 'Automatic Exemptions' section above) or who are granted exemptions in advance of the 2008-2009 year will not be billed for living on campus for 2008-2009.
- Students who plan to take MID-YEAR automatic exemptions are subject to the standard Contract Breakage Fee and refund schedule policies as outlined on the "Residency Requirement" web page.
Current Romers
Future Romers
Fall 2008 Romers will have the same opportunity as Irving residents to apply for any spring 2009 openings in the student apartments. This will be accomplished in November during Spring Housing Registration Week. All necessary information including forms and availability lists will be sent to the Rome campus in advance of Spring Housing Registration Week. There is nothing further to do at this point.
If sophomore Romers can work out on their own in advance who could replace whom mid-year during the campus switch that will be allowed as long as written confirmation is submitted that everyone is in agreement with the proposed arrangement. This assumes that everyone involved goes to Rome when scheduled and will still be classified as a sophomore next year. Otherwise, some non-traditional rooms in the halls (triples, quads, singles, etc.) will be available for those that cannot get into the apartments or prefer not to be in the apartments.
Fall Irving apartment residents with partial spring availability in their apartment can either mutually select new roommates from either campus for the spring on their own (preferred method) or ask the Office of Student Life for assistance in finding replacement roommates. In cases where an entire apartment becomes available for the spring, then complete groups may apply for those apartments following the same guidelines that were used for fall selection. Of course, this would be after first contacting any groups that may still be on a ‘wait’ list from the fall.
