New Student Paperwork

New 'confirmed'* students will receive a letter directing them to a web page containing information on additional forms required by the Office of Student Life. Somes forms pertain to the basic necessities while other forms assist with a smoother transition to college life. Questions about the forms may be directed via e-mail here or by phone call to 972-721-5323.

(*'Confirmed' students are applicants who have been accepted at UD and who have 'confirmed' they will attend UD by sending in the $400 General Deposit.)

Student Insurance

All degree-seeking full-time undergraduate students(except non-resident aliens) are automatically enrolled in a student health insurance plan. Participation in the accident portion of the plan is mandatory and that charge may not be waived. Participation in the annual sickness portion (prorated charge for spring admits) may be waived directly with the insurance company upon completion of an online waiver form. Students will also receive an insurance packet in the mail over the summer that will provide coverage details along with specific waiver instructions for the sickness portion of the plan. Remember, that failure to waive by the fall deadline date of September 20th indicates acceptance of the plan and related charges.

Click HERE to go directly to the UD page on the Aetna Student Health Insurance web site. The links to policy details and the online waiver form are located on the left.

Residence Life and Housing

All new incoming students living on campus are placed in standard double rooms with a roommate. Freshmen are assigned with other freshmen only -not upperclassmen. All rooms have standard twin-size (39" x 76") beds, desks, and closet and drawer space for each resident. Rooms have sinks with storage space underneath, a medicine cabinet, and limited book shelving. Housekeeping service is provided for the common areas. Residents are responsible for the upkeep of their own rooms. Luggage may be stored in the common storage room during the academic year only.

LAUNDRY: Card-operated laundry rooms are located in each residence hall. Laundry cards may purchased from the dispensers located outside of the Office of Student Life in the Haggar University Center. Cards cost $2 and can be recharged as needed. Card dispensers accept cash and credit. Students must provide their own laundry detergent.

For more information on the Residence Halls, or our housing policies, check out our Residence Life webpages.

Meal Plans @ UD

All campus residents are required to participate in the meal plan. New students can opt for the 19 meals/week plan or the 14 meals/week plan in the fall. Only the 19 meal plan is available during the summer. Cafeteria hours are posted outside the Cafeteria located in the Haggar University Center. Meal plans include a declining balance which can be used to purchase snacks and meals in the Rathskeller.

Dining services are provided by ARAMARK. Click here to find out more about the dining options available on campus.

Students who need special diets should contact the Director of Food Services. The director will provide advice or make specific arrangements to see that reasonable requirements of the diet are met. Verbal requests are not sufficient; students with special needs must complete a Meal Plan Exemption Form (available from the Office of Student Life).

Computer Specifics

Students are welcome to bring their own computers with them. Laptop computers with wireless capability are recommended for students who anticipate a semester on the Rome campus at some point during their undergraduate studies. There are no computers for student use on the Rome Campus. Otherwise, desktop PCs or laptops will work on the Irving campus. For PCs on the Irving campus, we recommend ethernet cards and cords for those who want to take advantage of the high-speed Internet access available to each resident in each residence hall room. There are also several wireless hotspots on the Irving campus located in common areas such as the Library and Cappucino Bar for those who prefer wireless Internet access.

The University has several computer labs on the Irving campus for student use located in the Haggerty Science Center.

Click HERE for UD email login instructions.

For more information, visit the Academic Computing website.

Personal Finance

Our Business Office will cash students' personal checks for amounts up to $200. The Business Office cannot accept third-party checks. We are not affiliated with any bank and do not provide checking or savings account services and other bank specific services.

There is a generic ATM machine located in the Haggar University Center, near the bookstore. This machine is not affiliated with any specific bank so a small service fee is charged.

If you wish to set up an account with a bank, please check out our list of national banks with locations near campus.

Several banks in the area also set up booths in the Haggar University Center during New Student Orientation. They typically have special offers for college students and their families, and students can sign up for a bank account at that time.
