The Henry Luce Foundation provided a grant for eight one-year full-tuition scholarships for female students at the University of Dallas majoring in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering, awarded during academic years 2015-2016 through 2018-2019. These scholarships were named Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) Scholarships and students who received these scholarships were named CBL Scholars. The University of Dallas offered an additional award to supplement the Henry Luce Foundation grant to provide a total of ten CBL Scholarships .
The CBL Scholarships show female students in a tangible way that their dedication to these areas of study is important and can give them the confidence to continue their studies in graduate school. The students who received one-year full-tuition CBL Scholarships met established merit criteria and were encouraged to commit to service to provide further support to female students in areas of study underrepresented by women while still students at the University of Dallas and as their careers are established.
In addition to the scholarships, the University established a Clare Boothe Luce Speaker Series, Clare Boothe Luce Discussion Panels for Undecided Students, and a support organization for women in the sciences. These initiatives were designed to attract women into physical science, engineering, and mathematical areas and to support them once there.
