Standing Committees (As of Fall 2017)

Publicity Committee - Chair: Clare Slattery, Secretary

Works to publicize Student Government meetings and campus events to the student population. Contact sgsecretary@udallas.edu.

Charters and Appropriations Committee - Chair: Lili Serna, Vice President

Approves the Constitutions of clubs and organizations on campus and allocated funds to them. Recommend the Student Government budget for the upcoming academic year. Contact studentgovernment@udallas.edu. 

Freshman Mentoring Program Committee - Chair: Clare Slattery, Vice President

The purpose of this program is to connect freshmen with upperclassmen in order to form relationships that bond the UD community even more closely together. Students sign up on Crusader Connect and are then matched with a mentor/mentee and SG funds one free meeting in the Cap Bar for matches to get to know each other. Contact sgsecretary@udallas.edu.

Student Concerns Committee - Chair: Alison Pettyjohn

Dedicated to gathering and receiving any concerns of the student body and delegating them to their respective committee in order for action to be taken. Contact studentconcerns@udallas.edu.

Temporary Committees (As of Fall 2017)

Judicial Review Committee - Chair: Straton Garrard

Investigates the possibility of creating a Student Judicial Review Board which would act as a judiciary branch in charge of examining low-offense cases brought against the Office of Student Affairs.

 

Sunday Sundaes Committee - Co-chairs: Houston Kirby, Andrea Saldivar

Fosters community between students and provides a casual environment for senators to interact with their constituents, as well as provides delicious ice cream after 7 p.m. mass.

Seal Creation Committee - Chair: Henry Jaros

Works to design a seal to represent Student Government.

Constitutional Review Committee - Chair: Thomas Mosmeyer

Reviews and edits the current Constitution in order to create a working and lasting Constitution.

Meet the Press Committee - Co-chairs: Angelo Novello, President, and Isabelle Melendez-Smith

Works with the student newspaper to provide the most accurate information regarding all Student Government happenings.

Student Health Committee - Co-chairs: Nikki Kramer and Claire Beckley

To address health problems, to promote Student Health, and to establish connection with the different health departments on campus. 

Campus Improvements Committee - Co-chairs: Annie Irlbeck and Jaime Nenclares

Gathers campus related issues or concerns while keeping contact with Facilities in order to resolve them.

Dining Services Committee - Co-chairs: John Bartee and Andrea Saldivar

Works to improve communication and relations between Aramark and the student body in order to better cater to the wants and needs of students.

Clubs and Orgs Committee - Co-chairs: Allison Federer and Tori Fleharty

Provides additional funds to the university’s clubs and organizations as requested and voted on by the Senate. 

Religious Concerns Committee - Chair: Steven Chabarria

Provides official and specific platform for student concerns as they relate to the religious and faith life of the students.

Senior Committee - Co-chairs: Michael Fazi and Abby Knapp

Fosters community among the Senior Class. Members serve as liaisons between their classmates and the administration. Their primary project is fundraising and organizing the senior gift.

Alumna Establishes Endowed Scholarship to Honor Longtime UD Administrator, Historian

“No one is more deserving of a scholarship in her name than Sybil Novinski,” said President Thomas S. Hibbs, Ph.D., BA ’82 MA ’83, at the ceremony celebrating the Sybil Novinski Scholarship Fund endowed by Eileen McPherson Meinert, BA ’83, and her husband, David Meinert. “This is something that many alumni, faculty and administrators have talked about, and this is a great day because we get to honor someone who’s meant so much to so many.”

Physics, Chemistry Professors Receive Air Force Grant

In September, the U.S. Air Force awarded the University of Dallas and Cerium Labs a $500,000 STTR Phase II contract to develop a "Silicon Nitride Seal for Thermal Barrier Coating in Gas Turbines for Extended Engine Life.” Affiliate Research Assistant Professor of Physics Will Flanagan, Ph.D., and Associate Professor of Chemistry Ellen Steinmiller, Ph.D., are co-principal investigators on the project. This award builds on a smaller $50,000 Phase I award earlier this year. UD’s portion of the award is $150,000.
