Psychology FAQ

Questions? Find answers and general information about the graduate psychology program at University of Dallas.

How long will it take to earn my degree?

The 30 credit MPsy can be completed in four semesters, the 48 credit MPsy with clinical concentration will require at least five semesters of coursework, plus 300 supervised practicum hours. Typically these requirements can be completed within 6 semesters.

Can I apply if I don't have an undergraduate degree in psychology?

Yes. While we would prefer an undergraduate degree in psychology or related field, our  prerequisites are that the student have had general psychology, statistics and/or research design, or six credits in psychology approved by the program director.  Students not meeting these prerequisites may be offered provisional acceptance into the program conditioned upon their completing appropriate prerequisites at UD under the program director’s guidance.

I want a graduate degree in psychology but I’m not sure I want to be a counselor. What does UD offer me?

Students pursuing the 30 credit MPsy have great latitude in their electives and can select coursework and pursue research opportunities in view of their individual interests and educational goals.  Additionally, some graduates have pursued doctoral studies in a number of psychology related fields including counseling, social psychology, developmental, experimental, and clinical psychology.

How do I obtain a practicum placement?

The program director and practicum coordinator work together with students to facilitate placement in fulfillment of the curricular practicum requirement.

Does the program provide me with a license to practice?

Licensing falls within the purview of the state licensing boards of counseling and psychology.  The MPsy with Clinical Concentration can be used to fulfill the requirements for licensing.  For more information for licensing requirements, see the Texas Department of State Health Services

How much does it cost?

Graduate program tuition rates are listed by student account services. Financial aid and scholarships may be available for qualified students.

Can I complete my degree on-line?

Because we place a high value on the “face-to-face” learning experience, particularly with respect to the disciplines of psychology and counseling and their practice, all of our classes are only offered on-site.
