I am an Assistant Professor in the department of Communication where I specialize in media studies and new media. I received my Ph.D. in Communication from Purdue University. Prior to seeking that degree, I studied computer science and worked at IBM for 12 years as a programmer and project manager. My primary research interests are virtual work, technology adoption in organizations, and uses and effects of technology on communication processes. My current research projects include investigating the use of social media between instructors and students and the effects of technology on student-parent communication in college. I particularly enjoy teaching and am passionate about media literacy education and making students good digital citizens.
